Jon has been part of Pentangle since 1999, becoming a director in 2009. Trained at Manchester School of Architecture, he qualified as an architect the same year he joined the practice — and has spent the years since working across a wide range of projects, from carefully considered house extensions to new-build housing schemes, community buildings, and complex planning applications for commercial and public-sector clients.
His instinct is for design that responds to its place — whether that means respecting the Arts and Crafts grain of Letchworth or finding something more expressive for a site that can take it. He’s equally at home navigating a sensitive heritage context as he is pushing something more ambitious through a tricky planning process.
Recent projects reflect that range. The new building for the Benslow Musical Instrument Loan Scheme in Hitchin — a purpose-built home for one of the country’s leading instrument loan charities — required a design that was both practical and appropriately considered for its setting. Node Park in Codicote presented a different kind of challenge: a sensitively designed residential development within a registered historic park and garden, converting a former country house into apartments and adding new homes — including a striking contemporary dwelling within the original walled garden.
Being RIBA-chartered and ARB-registered means Jon works to a professional code of conduct and carries the qualifications and insurance that protect clients throughout a project — from first sketch to final completion.
What matters most is that clients feel properly looked after — not handed off, not managed. Jon runs projects directly, stays involved from first conversation to completion, and is straightforward about what’s achievable and what isn’t.
Outside the office: running, cycling, and the occasional optimistic round of golf.
